Install FUTO Notes on Windows

FUTO Notes for Windows is a signed installer, FUTO-Notes-<version>-x64-setup.exe. Download it, run it, and the app installs for your user account without asking for administrator rights. After that, the app updates itself.

Requirements

  • 64-bit (x64) Windows. There is no native ARM64 build.
  • Microsoft Edge WebView2, which draws the app’s interface. Windows 11 already has it. If your PC doesn’t, the installer downloads and installs it, which needs an internet connection during setup.

There is no MSI package, and FUTO Notes is not in winget or the Microsoft Store.

Download

Get the installer from the download section on the homepage, or from the latest GitLab release.

Install

  1. Run FUTO-Notes-<version>-x64-setup.exe.
  2. Follow the installer’s steps.
  3. Open FUTO Notes from the Start menu.

The installer is signed with FUTO’s Extended Validation (EV) code-signing certificate. To check the signature before you run it, right-click the file, choose Properties, and open the Digital Signatures tab.

Where your notes go

By default, notes are plain markdown files in a futo-notes folder inside your Documents folder. You can point the app at a different folder. See where FUTO Notes stores your notes.

Updates

The app checks for new versions and shows an install button in the bottom-right corner when one is ready. When you click it, FUTO Notes downloads the new installer and verifies its signature. It then closes, runs the installer with only a progress bar, and reopens. You can turn the checks off in Settings. See how FUTO Notes updates.

Uninstall

Open Windows Settings, go to Apps, find FUTO Notes in the list of installed apps, and choose Uninstall. This removes the app but not your notes: the futo-notes folder in Documents (or whichever folder you chose) stays where it is. Delete it yourself if you want the notes gone too.
