Install FUTO Notes on iPhone and iPad

FUTO Notes for iPhone and iPad is on the App Store and needs iOS or iPadOS 18 or later. Install it like any other app. The App Store handles updates.

Requirements

  • iOS 18 or later on iPhone, or iPadOS 18 or later on iPad.

Install

Open FUTO Notes on the App Store on your iPhone or iPad and tap Get. The App Store is the only way to install it on iOS.

Find your notes in the Files app

Your notes are plain markdown files, and they are visible in Apple’s Files app. Open Files, go to On My iPhone (or On My iPad), then FUTO Notes. The notes are in the futo-notes folder there.

Updates

The App Store updates FUTO Notes. If you have automatic app updates turned off in iOS Settings, update it from the App Store yourself. The app has no updater of its own on iOS. See how FUTO Notes updates.

Sync with your own server

To keep your notes in sync with other devices, run the FUTO Notes sync server yourself and point the app at it. The iOS app can connect over plain http:// on your own network, and over HTTPS from anywhere. Notes are end-to-end encrypted either way. See self-host FUTO Notes sync.

Deleting the app

Deleting FUTO Notes from your iPhone or iPad deletes the notes stored on it, because they live inside the app’s folder. Before you delete it, sync the notes to your server, or copy the futo-notes folder somewhere else in the Files app.
